In my working life, I am the Executive Director of ExCeL London, our city’s major convention and exhibition centre. This role requires deep understanding of the congress and convention industry as well as the management skills to adapt ExCeL to meet the needs of a changing global market.
With ExCeL being part of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) group of companies, I have been able to draw on direct experience of both the European and Middle East regions in driving ExCeL’s growing congress business.
ExCeL hosted its first ICCA-rated event, EADV in 2005, which was a pivotal moment – it was the success of this event and planning for the London Olympics in 2012 that set the ExCeL management team on a path to build London’s first International Convention Centre which opened in 2010.
This investment transformed ExCeL’s business and as well as the Olympic and Paralympic Games, my team have since hosted the G20 Summit and many ICCA-rated congresses such as the European Society of Cardiology, helping to move London up from 19th to 5th in the ICCA rankings.
I have been in leadership positions within ICCA since 2006 bringing a passion for education and knowledge exchange to UK & Ireland Chapter activities and leading innovative sponsorship solutions to allow the Chapter to launch new events and deliver enhanced services to members. I joined the ICCA Board of Directors in 2012 and became a Vice President in 2017.
I have been committed to sharing my experiences, speaking at industry congresses around the world including COCAL (Argentina), SAACI (South Africa), TAITRA (Taiwan), KME (Korea) and ICCA events in Prague and Abu Dhabi as well as dedicating my time as Co-Chair of the ICCA Venue Sector.
The ICCA Congress in Shanghai 2013 was a milestone – I met my wife Claire at the Congress – we married 14 months later and have two daughters, Ava and Beatrix. As such, I can truly say I understand the meaning of “The ICCA family”!
My global outlook is driven by an international background with family heritage from England, Wales, Germany and Portugal. I can speak both French and German.
